GDSN and Product Information Management Software for GS1 Compliance

DQ Inspector has been designed to work to the GS1 and GDSN standards which include validation of visual attributes and tolerance checks for dimensional and weight attributes. The validations applied are only warnings and are not enforced by DQ Inspector.
DQ Inspector uses a check digit calculation to validate an Item Number. However, this is only enforced when adding an Item to an inspection through DQ Inspector. You can use your own item codes when creating lists of items to be inspected from your system. DQ Inspector will indicate a warning by highlighting an invalid GTIN in an inspection list but will not prevent you editing other attributes or completing an inspection.
DQ Inspector can be installed on an iPhone, iPad and iPad mini with a minimum iOS of 5.0.
DQ Inspector can be downloaded directly to your mobile device from the Apple App Store.
Go to the mobile device's settings screen and select the DQ Inspector application. From this screen you can set the default unit of measure for both linear and weight measurements. You can also specify the input devices, number of decimal places and the decimal separator to be used.
First you will need to download and install DQ Inspector from the Apple App Store. Once DQ Inspector has been installed you will need to provide a set of items to be inspected/audited.
A set is a list of items to be inspected.
The list of items to be inspected will be provided by your Product Manager or equivalent. A sample list has been provided as part of the DQ Inspector installation or you can download it here.
DQ Inspector can receive and send data in CSV format only.

The item list or set must contain the following:

  • Batch Number,
  • Item Number (GTIN),
  • Global Location Number (GLN),
  • Global Packaging Classification (GPC) Code,
  • Item Description,
  • Packaging Type,
  • Item's dimensions, weight and net content.

For non-trade items DQ Inspector will also require:

  • Total Quantity of Next Lower Level Trade Item,
  • Quantity of Trade Items per Pallet Layer,
  • Quantity of Layers per Pallet
  • Quantity of Next Level Trade Item within Inner Pack.
The list can be received as an email attachment or, if the server communications have been set up, it can be directly downloaded from your server.
DQ Inspector has a built in document management system. This will allow you to create your own folder structures based on your company's requirements. You can store files, images, videos, etc. in these folders. We suggest that you create a new folder for each inspection.
DQ Inspector allows you to provide your own packaging file and tolerances. The file must be labelled 'packaging.csv'. It will also need to follow the standard format, an example of which can be downloaded here.
Once the list has been imported into the DQ Inspector, select the Set menu option to view a list of files and folders. Select the set for the inspection and double tap the entry to display a list of Items to be inspected/audited. An item can be selected by double tapping an entry.
On the Item list screen you can search the list using either a partial Item number or a partial description. All Items matching the search parameters are highlighted in orange. If a single item is found that matches the search parameters DQ Inspector will immediately show the attributes screen.
DQ Inspector supports the use of any Bluetooth (HID) compliant external devices including barcode scanners or you can choose to use the inbuilt camera to scan the barcode.
DQ Inspector supports any Bluetooth (HID) compatible devices. Traditional RS-232 enabled devices, like scales and callipers, can be used but these will require specialist kits which are available directly from LANSA Contact Us for more information. If you are using external scales, for example, you will need to go to the mobile device's settings screen, select DQ Inspector and set the weight device to the appropriate value.
DQ Inspector can be used to visually check the Item Number (GTIN), Global Location Number (GLN) and Global Packaging Classification (GPC) code. It will also allow you to make changes to the Item Description, Packaging Type and an item's dimensions, weight and net content. For non-trade items DQ Inspector will also allow you to record the Total Quantity of Next Lower Level Trade Item, Quantity of Trade Items per Pallet Layer, Quantity of Layers per Pallet and Quantity of Next Level Trade Item within Inner Pack.
DQ Inspector utilises the mobile device's inbuilt camera to allow you to take photos and even video of the item being inspected. It also has a facility to tag the photo with an orientation such as back, front, top, bottom etc.
The Inspection results are saved once you press done on the item list screen. This provides you with a snap shot of the tolerances applied at the time of the inspection.
Once an inspection has been completed the data is stored in a CSV file.
The completed inspection file will contain all the data from the original inspection file plus additional data gathered as part of the inspection. It will contain a before and after shot of all dimensional, weight, net content and trade item attributes, plus a number of flags that indicate validation warnings. The date the inspection was started and the date an individual item was inspected is also recorded. An example of a completed inspection can be downloaded here.
Once the inspection has been completed, the list and all associated documents can be sent as an email attachment or, if the DQ Inspector Server has been setup, it can be directly uploaded to your server.
The DQ Inspector Server is a software component which is installed on a server and allows DQ Inspector to connect directly to your server. This connection can then be used to upload and download documents directly to or from the server.
DQ Inspector Server can be installed on IBM i, Windows and Linux servers.
