The PTF's for the correction of this issue have now been officially released:
5.4 -- SI45065
6.1 -- SI45061
7.1 -- SI45060
Several customers have reported that they get strange behaviour in the LANSA for iSeries function editor, whereby *N characters appear in the command parameters. The problem seems to occur when you prompt on a command (F4) and input some valid values. On retuning to the editor, some of the command parameters are filled with *N characters. For example, prompting (F4) on the REQUEST command and inputting a field, on returning to the RDML editor, the field input attributes can be filled with *N characters.
Currently, this has only been reported for V5R4 and the same issue has not been reported for V6R1 or V7R1. However, it does not occur in all V5R4 environments. It can also be generated across all versions of LANSA. In one instance, it was reported that the issue started after applying all the latest IBM PTFs for V5R4.
Update: Tests indicate that the issue is introduced after applying PTF SI38543 in CUME PTF C0292540.
If you encounter this issue, you should review the PTFs that have been recently applied. IF the PTF above has been recently applied, then you should remove the PTF (using the RMVPTF command) and report the issue to IBM.
