Abstract:Fields with the identical descriptions can cause confusion for users when carrying out sorts and selections
Submitted By:LANSA Technical Support

Many business users prefer to display field descriptions rather than field names when working on queries. So, to make data analysis easier for them, administrators should give fields in all files unique descriptions. This avoids confusion when users are performing sorts and selecting data.

For example, if a user is using two files, customer and country, in a query and both contain a field with the identical description - "name". It may be obvious to the user when they are creating their query which field they are working with. But, if they are in a "Sort" or "Select Data" dialog box it is impossible to tell which field they are working with, because "name" is listed twice. The user has to guess whether it is the customer name or country name they are selecting!
