The Visual LANSA development workbench (IDE) has been completely replaced in LANSA V11. Producing 5250, Web or Windows applications is now easier and faster than before. Developers using this workbench are demonstrably more productive than those using 5250 screens for development.
It is probably best to setup a training environment that you and your developers can use, in advance of the upgrade.
Allowing your developers to become acquainted with the new Visual LANSA IDE in advance of the upgrade will help to ensure that you have little or no disruption to developer activity following the upgrade of your development environment.
You can do this by installing a separate environment for this purpose. This may also serve as a test-bed environment for you to verify your applications with Version 11.0. Refer to Step 2 - Upgrade to Version 11 for more information.
The Visual LANSA IDE has changed in some dramatic ways that will make your work easier, faster and more satisfying than before.
Current Visual LANSA Developers will find much that is familiar in the new Visual LANSA IDE, but also much that is greatly improved. You will find a much greater degree of integration that provides all you need for LANSA development in one environment. You will discover that the new IDE and editors are highly-configurable. You will benefit from dramatic new productivity enhancements such as auto-complete and the new command assistant. Enhanced debugging functionality and many other enhancements such as word-wrapping in the source editor round out the picture.

Once you are ready to get started, you will need to do some reading and some tutorials in order to familiarize yourself with the power of your new IDE. It would be a good idea to ask your LANSA account manager about suitable classroom training.
