Visual LANSA installation ends abruptly with no error messages
|Date:||11 December 2009|
|Product/Release:||Visual LANSA V11 SP5|
|Abstract:||If correct privileges are not held by the installer, Visual LANSA installation will not complete correctly|

Some customers have reported issues installing Visual LANSA whereby the installer ends abruptly shortly after displaying the message "starting services" (after the copying of files). No error is shown on the screen, and nothing appears in the Windows Event Viewer when this occurs. Furthermore, the users were logged in as Administrator at the time.
Refer to the following Microsoft article that dicusses this topic.
The article mentions a new privilege that was added in Window 2003 and XP SP2 called "Impersonate a client after authentication." By default this privilege should be granted to Administrators and SERVICE security groups. However, it is possible that this authority is disabled or excluded by way of domain policy.
The "Impersonate a client after authentication" privilege is required to successfully complete the visual LANSA installation. Therefore the solution is to add this privilege to any user that will be doing the installations (typically Administrator). This can be configured through the operating system Local Security Policy in the "User Rights Assignment" section.
