Consolidating LANSA licenses into a central location in V13

The LANSA V13 license facility has been improved to detail the license information in a way that makes it easier to quickly see what licenses are applied to a particular CPU and the status of each license.
If you have any of the following LANSA environments
- More than 1 LANSA configuration on a single CPU
- More than 1 LANSA configuration across several CPUs
- several CPUs where each CPU has more than 1 LANSA configuration
consolidating all your license information into a single location can make the task of managing your licenses much easier.
On IBM i
New licenses are required for LANSA for iSeries V13. It is possible to consolidate LANSA V13 licenses into a central location to cater for the following situations:
- If you have more than 1 LANSA for iSeries V13 installation on a single IBM i server,
- if you have more than 1 LANSA for iSeries V13 installation on more than 1 IBM i server.
In LANSA for iSeries, you apply licenses to a LANSA system as per previous versions, using the LANSA LICENSE command. If you have more than 1 LANSA for iSeries system on the same CPU, you have to apply the same license to each LANSA system independently. LANSA for iSeries V13 differs from previous versions in that the license information for each system can subsequently be consolidated into a single location. The license file location for each LANSA system is stored in a data area called DCXALIC in the LANSA program library. You could for example, do the following
- create a single folder on the IFS to hold all licenses for all systems
- copy all the license files and license XML files for each LANSA system from their current system level location on the IFS to a central location on the IFS
- change the data area DCXALIC for each system to point to the new folder
New licenses are required for Visual LANSA V13. License consolidation on Windows is automatic in V13. When you install Visual LANSA V13 on your PC, a license location is created. If you install further Visual LANSA V13 installations, the initial license location becomes your central license location. For example, you can:
- Install a version of Visual LANSA V13 and apply server licenses to it using the Licensing - Server licenses option in the LANSA Folder
- Install a 2nd version of Visual LANSA V13 and when you open the Licensing - Server licenses option in this LANSA Folder, all your previous applied licenses will be listed without having to re-apply them.
- You can add or make changes to any of the licenses from the Licensing - Server licenses option in either of the Visual LANSA Installations and the additional licenses or changed licenses will be picked up by the other installation.
- Irrespective of how many Visual LANSA environments are installed, this central license location will be automatically picked up by all the installations.
- If you uninstall the Visual LANSA installation with the central license location, the license details will remain.
- It is possible to change the central license location so that the location isn't part of any particular Visual LANSA installation.
- It is possible to have your central license location external to your own PC ie. in a network location. As an extension of this you could, for example, create a central license location on your network for all your Windows servers so that all licenses are kept together external to the actual servers for ease of ongoing maintenance.
